Kegworth Scout Group was first formed in 1909 and was known as ‘Lord Crawshaw’s Own’. The group used to meet at The Old Mill, but in 1920 the group closed.
The group reformed in 1927 and in 1928 was renamed 1st Kegworth Scout Group. The Scouts originally wore orange neckerchiefs and would meet at The Scout room on Derby Road in Kegworth, unfortunately closing again in 1944/45.
In 1954 the group reformed and wore green and yellow border neckerchiefs; meetings were held at the Junior School until 1961 when they moved to the Scout Hut on Mill Lane.
The current Scout Group reformed in 2010 and is based at Kegworth Village Hall. The 1st Kegworth Scout Group is part of the Loughborough District and has an excellent and hard-working set of leaders, supported by an executive committee. The Group consists of one Beaver Colony, one Cub Pack and one Scout Troop.
The Group primarily serves young people from Kegworth and surrounding villages.
We are an active Group and take part in many District, County, National and International activities; from camps, competition hikes, climbing and water activities.
1st Kegworth believe in bringing people together, having fun creating new friendships and developing life skills. We celebrate diversity and stand against intolerance. We’re part of a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures.
We encourage young people to do more, learn more and be more. Each week, we help young people enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future.
We’re talking about teamwork, leadership and resilience – skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians. We help young people develop and improve key life skills.
